A writer that doesn't know how to write

So i've tried to be a writer for years. I've written in countless notebooks, with sometimes great success, but more often than not - limited success. But why? I really like the idea of writing my deepest thoughts onto a medium that people might see, like this blog. But I've stalled on paper too. Why? Lets see if I can figure it out.
